Do you know how one woman’s false accusation on Aziz Ansari led to #MeToo as a moment losing its credibility? If you don’t, please do check it.
Well, In 2016 beautiful actress who ‘wow’ ed us with her beauty in Aquaman came out and said her husband (Johnny Depp) physically abused her. So many people praised her for coming out and talking about domestic violence which women in Hollywood don’t speak about often.
She talked about how people said now she will be Blacklisted etc., and she was looked at as an empowering figure. The Depp-Heard divorce, after less than two years of marriage, was one of Hollywood’s most toxic in 2016, an obnoxious affair featuring allegations of physical abuse, restraining orders, texts and pictures of facial bruises, plus duelling lawyers and publicists.
She claimed that at their Los Angeles penthouse, He threw a phone at her as hard as he could, grabbed her by hair etc. She said he threw her on the floor which was covered with damaged objects, including silver candlesticks and a lamp. Heard’s friend Raquel Pennington then arrived at the penthouse.
Heard eventually donated her share of the divorce settlement, about $7 million, to a charity focused on fighting domestic abuse of women. In addition to her thriving acting career, she is now an ambassador on women’s rights for the American Civil Liberties Union. (Such a beautiful story, am I right?)
Now, I don’t want to call a woman Gold Digger but when I heard the name ‘Amber Heard’ I felt like I have ‘Heard’ it before. She was the same woman who immediately started dating Elon Musk after the divorce? Again a personal thing, I shouldn’t comment. Both were dealing with a very public break-up, and maybe they needed it.
Naturally, people rallied behind Amber and shamed Johnny’s actions, despite claims from his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis and best bud Doug Stanhope that he would never hurt a woman. But no one was ready to leave Amber’s side (Sisterhood, Fuck yeah!)
Now you will say, It’s been almost three years since the case and their divorce was settled in court. So why are we talking about it again in 2019?
Well, it’s because people are changing sides after Johnny Depp filed a $50-million defamation case against Amber and has presented evidence that he was allegedly on the receiving end of the abuse.
New proofs confirm that it was Jhonny Depp who was the victim, but again, we live the world where why will women lie? Depp produced 87 Surrvelience videos, photos of his injuries sworn declaration which proved his wife has abused him and set him up.
Irrespective of Gender, Domestic violence is domestic violence. Where are people who accused Depp now? I wish and hope this story is true. We need to believe in innocent until proven guilty in some cases and this was one such. His career was roasted; whatever he built was tarnished. So much for fake feminism, so much for #MeToo
We need to realise, more fake cases like this will come out fewer people will believe women.
