Operation Karaoke: Bollywood, TV stars accept money to promote political parties

Cobrapost is an Ingestive Journalism website which recently did a sting operation on a bunch of celebrities. Multiple celebrities were asked to share a political party agenda as a personal opinion and were to be paid something between 2 Lakh to 30 Lakh.

Celebrities from Bollywood who agreed to be a part of the foul practice are singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Kailash Kher, Mika Singh, Baba Sehgal. Among the lot of actors are Vivek Oberoi, Jackie Shroff, Shakti Kapoor, Sonu Sood, Amisha Patel, Mahima Chaudhry, Puneet Issar, Surendra Pal, Shreyas Talpade, Pankaj Dheer, his son Nikitin Dheer, Tisca Chopra, Rohit Roy, Deepshikha Nagpal, Akhilendra Mishra, Rahul Bhat, Salim Zaidi, Rakhi Sawant, Aman Verma, Hiten Tejwani, his wife Gauri Pradhan, Evelyn Sharma, Minissha Lamba, Koena Mitra, Poonam Pandey and Sunny Leone.

We don’t want to talk about industry rates, being underpaid etc. at the moment, let’s talk about the bigger picture, they just confirmed that their integrity could be bought for money.

Some celebrities even tweeted on the spot to show their keenness to join campaign without even talking about money. Most of them were more interested in getting in cash because it is easy black money.

Some suggested that they can tweet anything as long as they are getting content which is to be posted. They would defend the government even on controversial issues such as rapes and fatal accidents such as a bridge collapse here and there.

They agreed to send Cobra team their PAN and banking details, and many did so. They swore to keep the entire exercise a secret, and the agenda hidden.

Some celebrities even helped Cobra team in reaching out to other celebs. The fact that emerges from these revelations is most of the celebrities promote different brands and products on social media for money. So, if you think what such celebrities write on their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram profiles is out of their genuine appreciation of a political party, think twice.

The website has mentioned, however, that when approached, some celebrities were ready to manipulate brains of people for money some people chose the high road and refused to take the offer like Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi, Raza Murad and Saumya Tandon.
